Baler bound

June 27, 2014

A year ago, I tried to visit Baler (in Aurora, Quezon) with a good friend of mine who is a frequent surfer there in Sabang Beach. Unfortunately, there was a massive landslide at that time and it blocked the only way to reach Baler. Luckily, we met a really nice and friendly Japanese surfer who was kind enough to bring us to La Union, another popular surf spot in the country, instead. Fast forward to today, I finally made it to Baler : ) Together with my 6 awesome friends, we stayed at the nicest hotel along Sabang Beach called Costa Pacifica.

We rented a few boards (P 200 per hour) and enjoyed the gentle south swell of the Pacific Ocean. (Surf season in Baler is from October to April).

We also checked out the private Dicasalarin Cove and it was a great place for some afternoon drinking and swimming.

There are so many great things I can say about Baler. It is really nice and clean there, the beach break is long and wide and the locals are truly friendly and genuine. Food is relatively cheap, depending on where you dine of course. On our last night, we had a local (my friend’s friend) buy Barracuda and some Lobsters for us and it was absolutely delicious and omg, very cheap!

I would definitely come back to Baler. There are still so many other places to see, like the waterfalls and the other surf spots there. And also get more of Nanay Pacing‘s Peanut Butter and Coco Jam, the best I have ever tried!
